A graduate of the Polytechnic University of Barcelona, Pere Roca i Cabarrocas joined the CNRS in 1988 and developed a research focus on the physical chemistry of low-temperature plasmas. Within the Laboratory of Interface Physics and Thin Films (LPCIM), his scientific approach combining the elaboration and characterisation of materials with the development of experimental devices led to the discovery of polymorphic silicon. Pere Roca i Cabarrocas plans to research developments in silicon nanowires, light-emitting diodes and the realisation of a laser based on silicon nanocrystals.
