Eric Charbonnier holds a master's degree in economics and statistics. He publishes the annual publication “Regards sur l'Education” and every three years the results of the PISA study on 15-year-old students. He is actively involved in communicating with the French-speaking media on all educational issues. He also directed for several years the OECD's Education Systems Indicators Programme (INES) which provides data on the performance of education systems in the 38 OECD member countries and a range of partner countries. Eric Charbonnier is currently working on new indicators to assess the quality of early childhood education and care and secondary vocational education systems and has co-ordinated OECD studies on countries' educational response to the COVID-19 crisis. Convinced that "a statistic is often more reliable than a preconceived idea", he hosted a blog for the newspaper "Le Monde" entitled "l'Éducation déchiffrée".
