Eric Calais is a Professor at Ecole Normale Supérieure (Paris), specialising in active seismic regions of the globe. He is a member of Académie des Sciences and an honorary member of Institut Universitaire de France. He co-led the United Nations task force following the Haiti earthquake in 2010 and then worked as a scientific advisor for the United Nations in the context of post-earthquake reconstruction. He has received the Jacob Prize from the French Academy of Sciences for his work on the application of space geodesy to the study of earthquakes and the Frank Press Prize from the American Seismological Association for his work on the Haiti earthquake. He is currently on delegation to the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), on assignment in Haiti. He is the author of "Science et conscience dans la post-urgence du séisme d'Haïti", published by L'Harmattan (2017).
